CDS Curing Systems

For some time now I have been searching the concrete equipment market - worldwide - for the ultimate curing system for Precast Concrete products. I have now found it in the UK – CDS Curing Systems of Stoke on Trent, UK.

Existing curing systems on the market work pretty well and the results of temperature and humidity controlled curing are increasingly well known in the Industry. Those of you who have attended my training courses will know that I am verging on the `evangelical’ about curing and its many benefits – which are:

· Increased possibilities for cement substitution and cost reduction,

· Virtual elimination of efflorescence due to low surface evaporation & an enriched CO2 atmosphere,

· Brighter and consistent colours, more durable concrete with a more abrasion resistance surface

· Much faster early strength gain – allowing easy handling at 12 hours and possibilities for on line post processing (rumbling, shotblasting, polishing etc.)

One of the key elements of curing is that the temperature and humidity should not only be controlled to follow a preset temperature/humidity/time condition, but that all the concrete in the curing chamber should be evenly exposed to this preset environment. Unless special care is taken to ensure that the curing area or chamber is free from stratification and free from the direct localized injection of steam or wet humid air onto the product – then the actual benefits of warm humid curing can be reduced markedly. Hot air rises and cold air falls. CDS Curing Systems offer full temperature/humidity and time control plus full low velocity air circulation and recirculation to maintain a constant curing condition at all locations within the curing system.

One major benefit of this is that, provided there are no cold bridges at any point in the curing chamber there is no risk of condensation within the chamber and therefore the racks do not experience accelerated corrosion.

CDS have supplied Drying Systems in the ceramic & heavy clay (bricks, roof tiles and pipes) industry for 18 years. Also, during this period CDS have been supplying sophisticated & reliable cost effective curing systems to the market leaders in the concrete roof tile industry where early strength is paramount. In the last 3 years CDS have supplied curing systems & racks to one of the leading UK block paving and flag manufacturers on both new and existing block and flag plants. A spin off from this co-operation is that CDS can supply and erect complete curing racks , with doors, insulation, all ductwork, rails – plus, of course, their fully controlled curing system.

CDS offers:

· Curing systems - large and small - to suit all budgets and all applications

· Full control of temperature, humidity, time, air circulation and curing chamber doors

· Years of experience in the ceramic, clay & concrete industries – reliable, robust systems

· UK based for spares and backup and full turnkey installation and start up facilities

Rekers

Rekers manufacture a large range of Precast Concrete manufacturing and handling plant including - Block Plants, Handling and Packaging, Pipe Handling - Measurement, Machining, Quality Control and Testing Systems, Flag (Slab) and Kerb Handing Systems, Concrete Distribution Systems (travelling buckets) and Clamps. Plus full turnkey plants with batch plants.

Rekers has a worldwide reputation for making the best handling and packing systems in the world with proven reliability combined with state of the art control systems. The company has grown over the years to its pre-eminent position by developing solutions to virtually any new demand in the market. Rekers experience and know-how is second to none.

Some years ago Rekers started to manufacture its own block machine - based originally on the NEWA machine developed by Robert Van Baarsel, Commercial Director of Rekers. This machine is one of the most reliable, high output, universal machines in the market. Rekers have recently developed a new electronically controlled variable vibration system which is superbly reliable.

REKERS PAVER PLANTS

In the UK and Eire, Rekers is well known as a supplier of building block plants - having many very high output plants in the market. What is possibly less well known, is that Rekers have supplied in the UK, over the last 5 years, paving block plants (some, a full turnkey package) to some of the most prestigious companies in the market - with 100% repeat business. Naturally, these plants incorporate state of the art cubing and packing technology with void packs, 'online aging', stretch hood systems, shrink and sleeve wrap, strapping etc. Rekers paving block plants have very fast cycle time, very accurate height control and extreme reliability giving world leading annual outputs. Rekers have a spare parts depot in the UK and have a dedicated team of technicians to give rapid, competent customer service.

SPECIALIST ADVICE, ENGINEERING SUPPORT, TRAINING AND CONSULTANCY

Both Robert Van Baarsel and I pride ourselves that we are specialists in Block Plant technology and Precast Concrete handling systems for all high volume products. Our objective is to work with our clients to specify and develop the best cost effective solutions to all business and technical opportunities. Rekers has so many solutions already developed that a special demand from a client will probably already exist and proven - only the layout and details need to be modified. Custom solutions are Rekers bread and butter!'

FENWICK ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY specialises in block plant technology and can offer a full training and process know-how package to companies new to this market.

WASA

WASA have had great success worldwide with their UNIPLAST plastic pallets - offering long life, smooth homogenous surface, very good compaction - better product strength, higher outputs, eliminates draw plates. The surface can be reground and the whole pallet recycled.

They also do hardwood and softwood pallets.

In the UK and Eire, UNIPLAST pallets have 'taken the market by storm' and most of the leading block plant users are moving over to UNIPLAST.

We have several UK companies who have replaced or are in the process of replacing existing pallets with UNIPLAST to get immediate quality benefits - better strength, better surface finish, lower cycle time over both plywood and softwood pallets.

WASA's order book for UNIPLAST pallets is long and potential users should plan well ahead to be able to change the pallets over at a convenient and acceptable time.

For those preferring the proven HARDWOOD and SOFTWOOD pallets, WASA is a leading manufacturer. They have developed several new techniques to improve the performance of both hard and softwood pallets, including new tongue and groove and 'multiple toothed' joints to give a smooth no 'gap' joint.
